KAPPA DELTA PI :: XI GAMMA CHAPTER :: SETON HALL UNIVERSITY

Kappa Delta Pi members who demonstrate service and commitment to the Honor Society goals throughout the year can earn a special stole, the Service Honor Cord, to wear at graduation. At least 30 points must be accrued per year, every year until graduation, in order to earn the Service Honor Cord.

There are three ways to earn points:

• Attending meetings/programs: 5 points for each meeting attended. To receive the honor cord, KDP members must attend at least two meetings. Meetings are very important, as we use these for planning and carrying out chapter goals.

• Serving on KDP committees (i.e. Participating in a fundraiser, Assisting in KDP functions and activities, Attending a KDP conference): 5 points.

• Volunteer Service – 30 hours per year: 15 points. Some suggestions for volunteer efforts are:

·         After-school tutoring (outside of faculty contract)

·         Participation in the Read for America program

·         Participation in the Special Olympics

·         Teaching Catechism at your local parish

·         Participation in Walk-A-Thons for AIDS, Cancer, etc.

·         Attending Diversity workshops

·         Volunteering at a soup kitchen or related community service

·         Annual participation in the SHU 500

·         Participation in SHU’s DOVE office activities

Ideally, Service Honor Cord activity should be a mixture of service to the chapter, to the profession, and to the community at large.

In order to receive a Service Honor Cord, the following items are required to be submitted together by Friday, April 4, 2008:

o Completed Honor Cord Service Form (Link found below)

o Signed Service Verification Form or Signed Verification Letter on Organization/Department Letterhead (Link found below)

o Check for $8 made payable to Seton Hall University

Graduating Kappa Delta Pi Members who have earned Service Honor Cords will be honored and given their cords at the Kappa Delta Pi Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 26, 2008.
