My first year
teaching was a challenging experience for me. As a new teacher, I
was eager and open to try anything. I knew I did not want my
students to learn in a traditional way, where the teacher simply
presents information covering a large range of topics, while students
sit quietly and supposedly listen to the teacher lecture, explain,
present and show.
Today, I am
continually searching for new ways to solve problems, understand, and
teach to meet the needs of my students. I believe learning becomes
important to students when they become aware of how fundamental it is to
every aspect of daily life. For this reason, I present lessons,
activities, and projects that engage students in an active learning
process that demonstrates growth in process skills, critical thinking
skills, reasoning skills, and individual or group skills. Using
activities and projects that relate to the subject matter and daily life
help students understand the concepts being taught.
Below I have
included links to student work samples that demonstrate their growth and
knowledge within a specific discipline.
