Portfolio
Assessment
Unlike a test which gives a picture of
students' achievements at one certain point, a portfolio provides evidence of
progress over time. Throughout the school year, my fifth grade science
class compiles a working portfolio for specific units. This portfolio
assessment plan is on the unit "Movement and Control". It is an
enjoyable and interesting unit for the children and I.
Performance-based
Task
A performance-based task is an
assessment tool in which the teacher observes and makes a judgment about
students' demonstrations of a skill or competency in creating a product.
The emphasis is on the students' abilities to use their knowledge and skills in
creating their work.
At the end of the school year, I assign
the eighth grade Spanish classes a performance-based task that is reflective and
demonstrates their command of the Spanish language. This is a special
assignment for many of the students because it highlights unforgettable memories
and events.
