Professional Development in Education - Off Campus Program
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The
M.A. program in Professional Development for Educators consists
of 36 credits: 12 credits of foundation courses and 24 credits in
concentration courses.
Students may complete 12 credits prior to matriculation (formal acceptance by the University into the Masters Program). Students whose admission to SHU is not yet finalized, or those who are not pursuing a degree, must apply for non-matriculated status by completing the Application for Non-Matriculated Graduate Students, (Available from Enrollment Services).
For advanced standing, 6 graduate credits with grades "B" or better, may be transferred from an accredited institution, if earned within the last 7 years and not used toward another degree. The transfer process takes place after matriculation.
During the first semester of study, off-campus students must complete a residency requirement by taking one 3 credit course, for full tuition, at the Seton Hall Campus in South Orange: EDST-6216 Electronic Research Technologies. Generally, one of these courses is offered every semester including the summer. All other courses may be taken at the off-campus sites.
Students may choose to take as many as six courses per year (two int he Fall term, two in the Spring term and two during the Summer sessions) in order to complete the program in two years. Others may choose to enroll ni fewer courses per year.
To assist with program planning, course selection, credit transfer, or any difficulties encountered, students are advised to consult with the Director of the Off-Campus Program in Professional Development.
Qualified applicants may earn New Jersey Certification in Supervision by including four required courses in Administration and Supervision within the context of the M.A. in Professional Development.
Courses are offered at a nearby school site at hours convenient for teachers and other school personnel. Our special arrangements with school districts allow us to offer students in this program a 25% tuition discount on all courses taken off-campus. Students who teach at Catholic schools receive an additional discount. Our degree program is distinguished by this cooperative endeavor with school districts to encourage professional development for teachers.
The program is offered at off-campus sites throughout the state including: Eatontown, Haddonfield, Hillsborough, Rockaway, Roxbury, Sussex, and Wayne. Sites are continually being added to this list. The program is also offered at Seton hall's south orange campus.
