Program Mission

Graduate Studies and Special Programs (GSSP) fulfills the mission of Seton Hall University by offering certificate programs, specialized undergraduate courses and graduate degree programs for teachers, media specialists, business trainers, IT professionals, health professionals and individuals whose work would be enhanced by knowledge of instructional design, information technologies, educational media, and new pedagogies. Degree and certificate programs enable learners to select courses that complement their professional needs and personal interests.

GSSP promotes professional practice by developing graduates who excel in their various professions (competent), who provide critical insights that help solve problems in the workplace and in the larger society (reflective), and who exhibit the ethical, social, and professional ideals that are honored and taught at Seton Hall University (socially conscious).

Philosophically, every course and activity in the GSSP relates to the Catholic mission of the university and the related program mission. Program faculty are highly skilled practitioners in their specialty areas. Courses are carefully designed to include and assess competence in both theory and practice. A strong emphasis is placed on social consciousness with regard to service, the “digital divide”, diversity, and awareness of persons with disabilities. The program faculty are highly regarded for the care and service they provide students. A strong emphasis is placed on learning about assistive technologies because this is an area where computer-based technologies are known to be very effective. Finally, candidates are required to reflect and create change based on reflection throughout their coursework.
