Information Technologies - Graduate
NON-SCHOOL BASED PROGRAM:
Students in any
M.A. or the Ed.S program may also apply for and receive the Seton Hall University
Certificate
in Information Technologies. There is no New Jersey State certification for
information technology. The Certificate in Information Technology program
acknowledges students who achieve a level of experience and knowledge with
information technologies. The certificate program is open to any graduate
student enrolled at the University as well as students who are not enrolled
in a full University program.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
From
modems to satellites, from distance education to virtual reality,
information technologies are creating exciting and far reaching
changes in our lives. How will you respond to the opportunities
and dilemmas they present today and in the future?
A Certificate in Information Technologies will help you establish a base of knowledge that will enable you to live and work effectively in this environment of technological and social change.
Discover the basic concepts behind a whole range of information technologies and the powerful impact they have on our lives. Become actively involved in the intelligent utilization of a variety of information systems and the use of computer software to improve productivity, make decisions, pursue research interests, produce multimedia presentations, and enhance learning.
Be confident about your computing skills when you apply for your next job. This certificate will show employers that you have the technical proficiency to back up your academic accomplishments.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
The College will
award the Certificate in Information Technologies to students who
successfully complete five three-credit information technology courses (15
credits). A maximum of six credits will be accepted for equivalent courses
taken in other divisions of the University, or for courses taken at other
colleges. Graduate students may apply the credits earned toward the
certificate to a master’s degree or an Ed.S. degree in the Educational Media
Program. The graduate certificate program is available
to anyone who has received a bachelors degree.

EDST 6210 Microcomputing I
Introduction to computing concepts (networking, infrastructure, ethical issues)
and the fundamentals
of software - spreadsheets, presentation graphics, desktop
publishing, video, and Web authoring - are explored through project-based
instruction.
EDST 6212 Microcomputing II
Implications of a technological society are explored through readings,
advancement of software skills - word processing (mail merges), spreadsheets
(pivot tables, data analysis), relational
databases (creating and using), and Visual Basic Applications
explored.
EDST 3700 Integrating Curriculum and Technology
Designed
for educators and trainers in a variety of settings who want to
integrate "good practice" with a technology-based curriculum.
A broad range of non-print and computer-supported learning tools
will be explored through an interactive approach.
EDST 6214 Web Page Technologies
Learn
to use Web authoring, JavaScript, wikis, blogs, information utilities,
and other telecommunications tools. Prepares non-technically trained
student to survive the information explosion and succeed in the
21st century.
EDST 6216 Electronic Research Technologies
Advanced
electronic research using a variety of library and Internet-accessible
tools. Find, evaluate, and assemble the best information for your
individual research interests and workplace needs.
EDST 6214 Multimedia Technologies
Learn to create a
multimedia presentation using Macromedia Director combining text, graphics, audio, and video with links
and tools. Students will navigate, interact, create and communicate
information and ideas using graphics presentation.
EDST 6213 Access Database Application Development
Learn to manage information using a relational database. Gain the
knowledge and expertise to develop simple to complex queries, data
entry forms, and reports. Database design and the importance of
referential integrity stressed.
EDST 6215 Computer Graphics and Animation
Learn to use vector graphics software (Macromedia Flash) that enables you to create,
manipulate, and enhance graphic images suitable for various
publications including the Web.
EDST 6304 Production of Instructional Resources I
Design and develop instructional materials for various settings using
visual design principles. Emphasis is on the production of print
materials.
EDST 6305 Production of Instructional Resources II
Visual design theory is investigated to promote sound practice. Emphasis
is on the production of instructional photographs and videos.
EDST 6344 Seminar: Social, Ethical, and Legal Issues in
Computing
Social, ethical, legal problems associated with computer-based
technologies are explored, debated, and researched with the means for
reducing societal problems.
EDST 6345 Online Course Management and Delivery
Learn how to design, create, administer, and deliver Web-based
instruction.
EDST 6347
Special Projects in Technology
Develop a pedagogically sound project using emerging technology tools.
EDST 7348 Online Course Design and Implementation
Design and develop a complete plan for building an online course for
We-based delivery. Learn to create course modules, use facilitation, and
moderating techniques, and assessments.
EDST 7349/EDST 7350 Internship in Information Technologies
A field-based opportunity to gain professional experience in a work
situation appropriate to career goals. Development of critical
thinking and leadership skills while performing authentic tasks.
