Bilingual/Bicultural Education - (Inactive Program)
The College of Education and Human Services offers three graduate programs in Bilingual Education and two in Teaching English as a Second Language.
The three graduate programs in Bilingual Education are:
- Master of Arts (M.A.) 39 credits;
- Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) 39 credits; and
- Three doctoral sub-specializations in a) School Administration and Supervision, b) Counseling, and c) Clinical Psychology.
The Master of Arts degree satisfies New Jersey certification requirements. It is a 39-credit program designed for students who want to become teachers of Bilingual Education.
Note: Under current regulations, U.S. citizenship (or verification of intent to apply for citizenship) is required for state certification. Candidates who are not legal residents of the U.S. may pursue the Master of Arts in Bilingual Education, but will not be eligible for state certification. Under present regulations, students who satisfy certification requirements in New Jersey may apply for re-certification in 30 other states in the nation.
The Master of Arts in Bilingual Education and Educational Specialist degrees offer concentrations in Spanish/English, Chinese/English, Japanese/English, Korean/English, and Haitian Creole/English.
The Educational Specialist in Bilingual Education is a 39-credit program degree for practitioners holding a masters degree in a related field, who wish to upgrade their credentials or add an additional certification.
The Fellowship Program in Bilingual Education offers sub-specialization in Bilingual Education to candidates who wish to pursue a doctoral degree in School Administration and Supervision, Counseling Psychology, or Clinical Psychology (fellowship opportunities may be available upon application).*
There are two graduate programs in Teaching English as a Second Language:
- Masters Degree (M.A.) 42 credits, and
- Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) 39 credits.
